Plastics are back in the news after several major retailers in Australian have committed to stocking only BPA-free baby bottles. To understand more on plastic leaching watch my segment on the Today show or download my article Not so fantastic plastic.pdf

re: dangerous plastics

following your segment on today show regarding dangerous plastics. After eating yogurt decided to look at what no plastic it was, it is number 10 also read the ingredients label which in bold says contains PHENYLALANINE what is this? is it bad and is it in all yogurts?

Phenylalanine is an amino acid present in the artificial sweetener aspartame. It has to be highlighted on labels for the small number of people with the genetic condition PKU as they cannot metabolise this amino acid. For the rest of us there is not much scientific evidence to suggest aspartame is harmful, although anecdotal evidence abounds on the web. I prefer not to consume artificial sweeteners and would rather have a little sugar or other natural sweetener, but you need to make up your own mind.
