Joanna holds a PhD in nutritional science from the University of Sydney, Australia and first class honours BSc in nutrition and dietetics from The Robert Gordon University, Scotland. Her PhD was completed under the supervision of Professor Jennie Brand-Miller and compared the effects of diets differing in carbohydrate, protein and glycaemic index on weight loss, body composition and cardiovascular disease risk.


Joanna is a popular media spokesperson and is the resident nutritionist for TODAY on the Nine Network. She writes a regular column "Day on a Plate" for Sunday Life, is the nutrition expert of the ACP parenting group magazines and regularly contributes to a number of Australian publications. Joanna has authored or co-authored a number of books including the internationally published The Low GI Diet and The Low GI Diet Cookbook. In 2008 she published Star Foods (ABC Books) with 'The Food Coach' Judy Davie. Her latest book is a must have guide for all women who want to look and feel their best, called Inner Health Outer Beauty (Random House 2009).

Joanna is an accomplished presenter and lecturer having presented regularly both in Australia and the UK at nutrition and fitness industry events over the last ten years. Joanna is the ambassador for Vital Vegetables (a new range of vegetables esepecially rich in antioxidants), for the new Goodness brand of breakfast cereals, and for the Australian Olive Oil Association. She is also on the professional panel in a consultancy and advisory role for a soon to be launched weight management web-based program 'Get Vibrant!.

Joanna is a trained fitness instructor and taught group fitness classes for almost fifteen years. She hung up her teaching hat last year to give priority to her family and nutrition work, but firmly believes that exercise and good nutrition go hand in hand. To this end she has joined forces with B.FIRM a boutique lifestyle and fitness centre in Paddington, Sydney run by celebrity trainer Lee Campbell. Joanna operates a nutrition consultancy service from the centre and together with Lee and B.FIRM will run workshops, seminars and programs to help people to get in shape and get more from life.
